What improved client safety measures are in place at the new laboratory?
The new laboratory features enhanced safety measures, including advanced extraction systems to ensure a safe working environment. An improved permit-to-work system is in place to control site activities, ensuring that all safety protocols are followed.
Are there any mandatory safety training sessions or briefings for on-site workers?
Workers involved in builds or using spray booths will be required to complete a permit to work with their host. This will take a couple of minutes and ensures you have everything you need to complete your work smoothly and without disruption. Workers must be competent in the tasks they are performing and have access to the relevant risk assessments and method statements for their activities.
What are the emergency procedures and evacuation plans?
Emergency procedures and evacuation plans will be covered during the site induction. Area-specific arrangements will also be discussed during the completion of the relevant permit to work once inside the lab, ensuring all workers are familiar with the protocols in case of an emergency.
Is there security on-site? What are the protocols for accessing the laboratory?
The laboratory is secured with a digital fob access control system. You will be issued credentials that provide access only to the areas necessary for your work. Additionally, Birchwood Park Site Security is in place.
Confidentiality workflows have been enhanced to ensure secure and restricted access to sensitive information.
Are there restricted areas within the laboratory that require special access permissions?
There are several restricted areas within the laboratory that require special access permissions, typically related to maintenance and inspection. These areas do not affect client access needs and will be clearly identified to ensure you are aware of any restricted areas.
What accessibility arrangements are in place for the site?
The site is designed to accommodate visitors requiring additional assistance. Lifts are available to facilitate access to test viewing areas, and staff are trained to support or assist during site evacuations. If specific assistance is required, the needs should be discussed with a site Fire Marshall during induction. They will help familiarise individuals with refuge points and any necessary arrangements. Additionally, welfare facilities such as showers and toilets include accessible options.
What are the requirements for customers' workers entering the site for fabrication?
Clients preparing samples will be asked to complete a site Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) induction prior to starting work, which will be valid for 6 months. Together with their host, a brief permit to work will be completed to ensure they have everything they need to work safely and all persons in the vicinity understand the hazardous work(s) to be undertaken within scope of the permit. To support this, we ask that the client's Risk Assessment Method Statement (RAMS) is prepared in advance of their visit and submitted to their host.
Are there any specific safety protocols, inductions or Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements for on-site workers?
The site operates a 5-point PPE regime, similar to most construction environments: hard hat, protective safety glasses, boots, gloves, and hi-vis vests are required in laboratory areas. On-site workers should bring their own PPE for specimen preparation. PPE can be provided for visitors, although they are encouraged to bring their own. SHE inductions will be conducted for all visitors on arrival to ensure compliance with safety protocols, which will be valid for 6 months.
Is there a check-in/check-out procedure for workers on the site?
All visitors and workers are required to check in and out via the reception area.
To ensure the highest safety standards, permits to work will be cancelled upon check-out to ensure proper tracking and compliance.
What equipment and facilities are available?
Each build bay is equipped with 110v power supplies and compressed air. Client workers will have access to welfare facilities, including lockers, showers (with accessible provisions), toilets, meeting rooms, kitchen areas, and guest Wi-Fi. Additionally, they can utilise the Birchwood Park Engine Rooms, located just a few minutes' walk from the lab, offering a variety of dining options, meeting room hire, and an on-site hotel for added convenience.
Are there specific guidelines for using the laboratory equipment?
Any equipment brought to the site must be fit for purpose and in safe working conditions. Please ensure that all portable electrical equipment has been PAT tested, and any machinery requiring guarding has appropriate safety measures in place before use. These guidelines help ensure a safe working environment for everyone.
We would expect that clients will arrive on-site with the appropriate equipment needed to fulfil the planned tasks. However, if support is required, this should be discussed in advance with your appointed Technical Officer for the test and they will be happy to help wherever possible
Are there on-site technicians or support staff available for assistance?
Yes, on-site technicians and support staff are available to assist you. You will be assigned a host who will issue your permit to work and provide assistance during your visit. Our team can help with material movements, setting up access arrangements, and any other support you may need.
Who should workers contact in case of an emergency or if they need assistance?
Points of contact, including emergency contacts, will be established during the completion of the permit to work at the start of the job. If there is any change in the contact person, it will be discussed, and the permit will be updated accordingly to ensure everyone knows who to reach in case of an emergency or for assistance.
Has your accounts/billing/invoice address changed?
No, these details will remain the same.
Are there any changes to the payment terms or conditions?
No, these details will remain the same.
Who should customers contact for billing or invoicing inquiries or issues?
Your accounts manager will be able to assist with any billing or invoice inquiries or direct you to the correct contact.
As a new customer, how can I set up an account?
Your account manager will help to set up your account. You will receive an application form by email to complete and your application will be processed by our accounts team.
What should I do if I experience any issues or disruptions during the transition?
If you encounter any issues or disruptions, please contact your account manager. We will address your concerns as quickly as possible.
How can customers stay informed about the laboratory’s progress, operations, and the transition/relocation?
Customers can stay informed through regular updates via email and by visiting the dedicated page on our website, which showcases the latest news and progress. Additionally, updates will be shared on our Built Environment LinkedIn feed. We will provide timely information on the transition and any important changes.
